
Criminal Justice Career Option: ATF Document Analyst
Consultant, providing advice and assistance to United States Attorneys, Office of Inspection, ATF agents, state attorneys, and investigators from other Federal agencies and State or local organizations on matters relating to forensic document examination.
Represents the laboratory in national and local peer group professional organizations. Actively participates in a way that enhances the image of the laboratory and creates key networks that help accomplish laboratory objectives.
Carries out research or development projects on the identification and analysis of document evidence leading to improved technology and/or methodology to solve evidence problems.
Performs document examinations using sequential morphological, chemical, microscopic, photographic, and computer imaging techniques; and prepares reports of findings and expert opinions developed from the examination and analysis of evidence.
Assists with the preparation of training materials and carries out instruction in effective procedures to collect, preserve, label, package, and submit physical evidence (particularly document evidence) for laboratory examination.
Furnishes depositions or affidavits; testifies in evidentiary hearings, bench and jury trials, and before other adjudicators of fact in support of findings and expert opinion. Anticipates and defends against vigorous challenges to testimony under cross-examination.
