There are many possibilities for careers in criminal justice fields. While specific educational requirements vary throughout these fields, it is essential to build a strong knowledge about the criminal justice system, prevailing theories, and national and local policy. The curriculum at Douglas College has been designed to give students a broad basis for understanding the systems, concepts, and issues in criminal justice. Focus is placed on critical thinking skills, problem solving, public speaking, interviewing skills, conflict resolution, and crisis management through the use of role plays, video scenarios, debates, and group projects.

Advanced technology and increasingly complex legal issues have led to increased educational requirements and have illustrated the necessity of a life long learner mentality.
