Hamilton College, Mason City Moves to New Facility; Adds New Programs to Serve Area Employment Needs Criminal Justice Press Release

MASON CITY, Iowa/PRNewswire/ -- Today Hamilton College, the oldest continuously operating college in the state of Iowa specializing in business education, announced that its Mason City campus will move to a new location and add three programs on Monday, June 28, 2004. The new facility is located in Plaza West at 2570 4th Street SW and will introduce an associate degree in Medical Assisting and two bachelor degrees in Management with Criminal Justice and Accounting concentrations.



The 30,000 square foot facility includes seven computer labs, a new medical lab and an academic success center that provides students with individualized tutoring and study skills resources.

"After conducting extensive research and working with local business leaders to determine the employment needs of the area, we are introducing three new career-focused programs designed to train students for in-demand positions in healthcare, criminal justice and accounting," said David Fritz, Executive Director of Hamilton College, Mason City. "The new facility will provide our students with a more sophisticated, comfortable learning environment."

Students in the Medical Assisting program will take courses preparing them to assist physicians in patient examinations and medical procedures. They will also be required to complete an externship in a hospital or clinical setting before graduation. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant Exam.

The bachelor of science degree in Management - Criminal Justice Concentration will prepare students for careers in law enforcement, security and government. The degree in Management - Criminal Justice Concentration will be offered in both day and night sessions to accommodate working adults.

The bachelor of science degree in Management - Accounting Concentration will prepare students for careers as office managers, accounting managers and government accounting professionals. Courses required for the Management - Accounting Concentration degree include Auditing, Advanced Accounting, Government and Not-for Profit Accounting and an externship.

Hamilton College, Mason City will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 8 featuring remarks from the Mason City Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. Summer courses will begin July 12.
