American Public University System Names New Chair for One of the Nation's Largest National Security, Intelligence Programs @ Criminal Justice Careers Guide PRNewswire

Gary Berry is the new department chair for American Public University System's national security, intelligence and space studies program. The program at this distance learning institution is one of the nation's largest with 165 courses, 45 faculty members and almost 2,000 students enrolled.

"We're pleased to have someone of Berry's caliber leading one of our most important and sought after programs," says Wally Boston, chief executive officer for the University System ( http://www.apus.edu ), which serves more than 11,000 online learners worldwide.

Berry was department chair for the University System's government and international relations department. He also was deputy chair of the political science department at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (part of the National Defense University) and is a 26-year veteran of the Army.

"Our program provides many advantages to our students -- convenient, online learning; first-rate professors; and offerings that uniquely prepare students for careers at the State Department, the Department of Defense, in private industry and many other avenues," says Berry.

Students can earn bachelor's degrees in intelligence studies and aerospace; and master's degrees in strategic intelligence, national security studies and space studies. They learn from faculty with "real world" experience, many of whom have served in the CIA, National Security Agency, the military and elsewhere.

Berry joined the institution three years ago. He retired as a colonel in 2002 from the U.S. Army. He served three tours in Germany; was part of the Army's Delta force; and held joint assignments with the U.S. Navy, Marines and Air Force at the National Defense University and with Defense Information Systems Agency.

American Public University System is comprised of American Public University, American Military University and American Community College. The distance learning institution was founded in 1993 as American Military University. The system supports students in 50 states and 110 countries, delivering more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs. It prepares students for careers in homeland security, intelligence, criminal justice, emergency management, sports management, business administration and more. The institution also offers the convenience of 100 percent online courses and monthly class starts. Visit http://www.apus.edu to learn more.
