South University Launches New Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice PRNewswire

South University has announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Criminal Justice degree with courses offered both in traditional classroom settings, via the Internet or a combination of both through its unique PLUS+ program.

The new degree, available online and at the Savannah, GA. and Montgomery, AL. campuses beginning Oct. 3, will prepare students for entry-level positions in the law enforcement and criminology fields by offering courses in juvenile justice, corrections, criminal investigation, terrorism and cyber-crime.

"The political and economic changes in the past five years have increased demand for well-qualified criminal justice professionals in the federal and private sectors," said South University Chancellor John T. South III. "South University's B.S. in Criminal Justice program is specifically designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system in the 21st century. Our practical and relevant curriculum permits students the opportunity to advance their law enforcement careers or to enter the criminal justice field."

The Criminal Justice degree will prepare students for entry-level employment in a number of growing occupations, including: police officers and detectives, correctional officers, fire marshals, customs agents, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents, U.S. Secret Service officers and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officers. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's 2004-2005 Occupational Outlook Handbook, the criminal justice employment market will expand over 23% during the next decade, resulting in the creation of over 300,000 new jobs in this field. Also, with local and national law enforcement communities upgrading educational standards in these fields, South University's Criminal Justice program will satisfy this demand for trained applicants.

South University's B.S. in Criminal Justice program consists of 180 credit hours providing students five areas of emphasis to select from including: Law Enforcement, Terrorism and Homeland Security, Crime Scene Investigation, Cyber-Crime and Digital Forensics. Beginning in October, South University will offer the degree at its Savannah, Ga., and Montgomery, Ala. campuses.

The online Criminal Justice program joins the University's previously- established online degree programs: Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management. All of South University's online degree programs engage students with flourishing interactive communities, a faculty of skilled instructors, and career-oriented courses that reflect South University's rich tradition of academic excellence.
