
Choosing Criminal Justice Schools
Decide on your own personal interests. Do you want to attend on campus or pursue your a degree online?
Know your own career interests. Are you planning on pursuing a position on the higher end of the field or would you prefer a position as a patrol officer for your local law enforcement agency?
Talk to your counselors. Which colleges do they recommend for pursuing a degree in the field of CJ?
Send a note to your local Police Chief asking him or her if they can give you some guidance on school choices. Developing this relationship now could help you down the road once you've achieved your degree.
Continue to use the Internet to read up on schools. Consider posting in chat rooms and bulletin boards asking which schools the readers recommend and which they don't.
Once you've narrowed your list of potential schools down schedule appointments to visit the campuses of the schools. Ask the schools about their career placement services along with what percentage of their students graduate and how many do they immediately place in jobs.
Ask the schools about the amount of their tuition along with any financial aid services they offer. Some schools offering degrees offer excellent financial aid programs.
Inquire about the possibility of talking to some students already enrolled in courses. They may provide some great advice on the school and programs they are taking.
By doing some simple research you'll know you're making the right decision when you finally settle on which criminal justice schools meet your criteria and which schools don't.
