Lambda Alpha Epsilon - National Criminal Justice Fraternity CJC Staff

The formative idea for an organization such as Lambda Alpha Epsilon originated at San Jose State College in San Jose, California during the summer of 1937. That summer, the first California Technical Institute for Peace Officer Training was being held in San Jose. As class concluded, the Students realized that their mutual interest in law enforcement and the friendships they had built were incentives to perpetuate their contacts with one another. The men attending the Institute, sharing a common interest in law enforcement training and eager to upgrade their profession, were quick to realize the extent to which these interests could be carried by such an organization.

Through the years, Lambda Alpha Epsilon has grown and prospered far beyond the expectations of its founders, with approximately 3000 members in over 100 chapters nation-wide. One chapter is located in Hawaii and there are a number of members-at-large located in other countries around the world. In March, 1987 we celebrated our Golden Anniversary Conference with a gala celebration at our birth place in San Jose, California.

Lambda Alpha Epsilon has continued to grow since our "nationalization" to the point where we now have six regions and; Regional Presidents. Almost 75% of the states within the US have active chapters. We hold a National Conference every year conducting workshops and presenting speakers; competitions including corrections, criminal law, juvenile law, physical agility, and crime scene investigation, and a National Pistol Match. Rules and regulations of the National Rifle Association for Police Combat Matches are used. We also award scholarships each year to our members who wish to apply for them. The Association forecasts a continuance of growth insize and stature in the years to come. Members will become further aware of the impact their Associational membership has towards achieving academic and professional goals.
