Police Officers at The Academy @ The Criminal Justice Careers Guide
18 or 21 years of age depending on the governing body of the police academy. High school diploma or GED, however a criminal justice degree is preferred. You must be physically fit like most Criminal Justice Careers.
Like all criminal justice careers a felony conviction will disqualify you.
Training at the Police Academy involves training you the skills you'll need on the street as your pursue your criminal justice career as a Police Officer. The training like many other law enforcement careers will last several months and provide both classroom theory on criminal justice and hands on training. Included in the training at the Police Academy is arrest procedures, self defense, firearms training and driving skills. Police academy training will provide you a list of skills to long to mention here. Police Department recruits are paid during their time at the academy. Most Police Academy training is considered full time with a few departments around the country offering academy training on nights and weekends.
Completion of the Police Academy Once the weeks of training at the Police Academy are completed the recruits are given written and practical tests varying by department. Assuming the candidate passes the majority of the test then he or she is sworn in a fully fledged Police Officer. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Not really some of the Police Academies around the country make it hard enough to make sure they only receive the cream of the crop. Becoming a Police Office is a very prestigious criminal justice career.
