Interviewing For Criminal Justice Jobs C.J. Staff

Interviewing for jobs in the field of criminal justice is just like any other job interview. The key to being a great interview is preparing for the interview regardless of what level or for that matter career field. I'll say it once again; preparation is the key to being a great interview and just another candidate for the job.

Interviewing Tips For Criminal Justice Jobs

Interview Tip # 1

Learn all you can about the jurisdiction before going into the interview. Showing you've taken the time to research they are you're pursuing the job will go a long ways toward showing the Interviewer you're a great choice for the job. For instance if you're interviewing to become a Patrol Officer in a town you're not familiar with then take a day and drive around the area. Learn the shopping districts as well as potential high crime areas. Your knowledge of the area will serve to impress the Interviewer.

Interview Tip # 2

Ask the Interviewer to share as much information about the job and criminal justice agency as possible. People love to talk about themselves and this case their jobs. Soak up this knowledge early in the interview and try to refer to it at a later point in the interview.

Interview Tip # 3

Try to come across as a positive person with a can do attitude. Never complain about a past employer. Show the Interviewer you'll make the best out of every situation.

Interview Tip #4

Spend the extra money and go to a professional resume service. An eye catching resume could mean the difference between you getting an interview or being thrown in the pile. A friend of mine always presents the Interviewer with a new updated copy of his Resume at the time of the Interview. Now that the Interviewer has two copies you've increased your chances of being noticed not only for this job, but other jobs down the road.

Interview Tip # 5

Listen to what the Interviewer is saying and try to adapt your talk to what he or she is saying. Make sure not to become a â "yes" person, but do make sure to show the Interviewer you hear what he or she is saying. If the Interviewer states certain skills, try to emphasize you having those skills later in the conversation.

Interview Tip # 6

You've already read to be prepared and another way of doing this is having friends or family members provide a mock interview. Have them drill you with questions while you try to answer as professionally as possible. You'd be surprised what a few good mock interviews can do for you when you face the actual interview.

Interview Tip # 7

Don't overlook the obvious. Make sure your shoes are shined and your suit and shirt are pressed. You'll never get another chance to make a first impression.

With a little practice you'll be able to ace the interview and get the criminal justice job you're pursuing. Good Luck.
