C.J. careers have some very positive points and one of the most positive is that of early retirement. Many agencies offering C.J. jobs will allow their officers to retire early, sometimes after as little as twenty years in their C.J. job. The fact that an officer can retire early makes these careers very attractive. Early retirement for those in the field of Law Enforcement also creates a constant flow of openings to fill these positions. This is a huge plus for those just starting into their justice careers. Over the next ten years as more and more baby boomers begin to retire police departments and other criminal justice agencies around the country are expected to have shortages of man power for these careers and some agencies already have massive recruiting budgets to attract qualified candidates.

A number of factors are affecting the number of qualified candidates to fill positions in criminal justice careers. One of the factors is negative publicity criminal justice often receives on television. Another much larger factor is that many potential candidates choose to seek higher education and seek higher paying professional jobs. Many of today's potential candidates entering the workforce would rather have jobs where they don't get their hands dirty and can leave their job behind them at five o'clock.
