Like many careers those seeking police jobs will have an advantage due to the number of baby boomers about to retire over the next ten years. As baby boomers retrire more police positions will open up across the country. In addition many police departments offer early retirement after 20 years on the job which also creates additional openings for police jobs.

The higher paying jobs are working for federal and state police agencies. Because these police jobs are higher paying it means there’s a lot more competition for them. Less competition for jobs occur in rural and urban areas. Many police officers get their early years of experience working on lower paying forces before applying for the higher paying Federal or state police jobs.
